The next major event in Cork’s musical and cultural calender is the Cork International Choral Festival or if you’re a rugby fanatic then the Kinsale sevens might be more your scene. If either take your fancy we still have limited availability in Gabriel House over the bank holiday weekend so get in touch with us soon on +353 21 4500333
Gabriel House is undergoing some minor renovations to improve our main entrance and reception area before the forthcoming season.
We intend to complete the work as soon as possible so be careful as you arrive and please bear with us while we are not at our best visually.
Christmas seems like a distant memory as Valentines Day approaches. February 14th falls on a tuesday so you could get ahead of the crowd by booking your room with us the weekend before or avoid the crowds and wait until the weekend after. Either way we are happy to help with your plans and arrange whatever chocolates / restaurant bookings/ entertainment tickets / treats or flowers necessary to score some brownie points with your loved one. Take a lead from our loved up runner ducks Lizzie and Francis who never leave each others side as they wander through the gardens of Gabriel House together…happiness is 🙂
Here’s a lovely, simple recipe from the Gabriel House Kitchen that’s perfect for those cold winter days:
You can alter the filling to suit the season. Nowadays roast or baked apples are often stuffed with various mixtures, which may include dried fruit, lemon rind, nuts or spices. While this is nice occasionally, my favorite is the following recipe from granny Maher:
4 Bramley Apples
1/2 cup prepared mincemeat
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup cider (Bulmers is especially good)
Preheat the oven to 190 C
1. Core the apples
2. Peel one-quarter inch of apple skin from the upper half of each apple to prevent splitting
3. Place each apple upright in an 8-inch baking dish
4. Fill the apple cavities with mincemeat and dot with butter
5. Pour the apple cider around the apples and bake, basting with the pan juices several times during the cooking, until the apples are tender – about 30 to 40 minutes.

Today is noticably warmer but the sun is still struggling to shine in Cork. It’s going to be a laughter filled weekend with events at the City Limits Comedy club and the Camden Palace both are only a short walk from Gabriel House bed and breakfast where we still have limited accomodation.
